Tips and tricks - This FAQ provides answers to a range of issues relevant to new users who are setting up Winscore for the first time.

Free utilities

Flist 3.5 - This Windows filelist creator is available free to registered Winscore users. It is useful for creating filelists for part extraction and printing.
Set_Winscore_File_Types - This free Windows utility will automatically set up Windows file types for use with Winscore, meaning you can double-click on them from Windows Explorer to have them open in the program. You can even open and view files from an archive (zip etc). It allows you to add (and remove) your own choice of file types. Compatible with WinXP (SP2), Win 7. Download it here.
ScorCalc - This free Windows utility is useful for calculating dimensions and sizes when your stave width is not the default Winscore stave width. It recalculates page height and stave size as well as user definable text sizes. Download it here.

Midiscor 3 - converts files created using SCORE and WINSCORE to standard midi files. It provides a single integrated environment in which accurate performance realizations can be made. Follow the link to purchase.

Free macros for use with ScorEdit

The macros below are made available as is, and will speed up frequently encountered tasks. They are designed to work with ScorEdit version 3.7 or later, so if you have an earlier version you may need to upgrade. Once you have downloaded the macro, unzip the file and copy the individual .MAC and .STP files to the ScorEdit folder that resides in your User folder (on WinXP this is called Documents and Settings). Usually the path is something like c:\USER\<username>\LOCAL\APPLICATION DATA\ARARAT SOFTWARE\SCOREDIT3. Then when you open ScorEdit they should be listed in the Edit window.

TREMOLO BEAMS DIAGONAL converts SCORE’s default horizontal tremolo beams (where p7 equals -10 or -20) to diagonal whilst at the same time preserving the correct distance from the main beam.

CENTRE BLOCK REST NUMBERS centres vertically the number above block rests between the staves of two stave instruments (eg. piano or harp). It also removes the number from the upper stave.

Staff Templates - Here is a selection of commonly used staff templates which you can use as is or edit to the specification of your piece. Just click on the links to download. Then open them up in Winscore and save under your own file naming scheme. There are two pages available for each template, the first for the title page and the second for use on other pages.
